Roughly 50 automobiles have been marked with what appears to be blood from a person in the German town of Hanau close to Frankfurt, as reported by authorities.
Automobiles, exterior walls and postal boxes were marked, sometimes with Nazi symbols, they announced in a statement.
Officers report they were alerted in the late hours on Wednesday evening, when a individual observed that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a red-colored substance.
The substance had been drawn in the form of a Nazi symbol, they reported.
Police then located multiple other smeared automobiles and residential walls in the surrounding area.
These symbols are banned in Germany under laws banning the visible presentation of symbols from the Nazi era.
Officials report initial examinations show the substance was probably blood from a person.
"Currently there is no indication as to where it came from; authorities are currently not cognizant of any physical harm in connection with the incident," they commented.
Local authorities announced they were working "to unravel the case" and have requested to the community for details.
An important official commented the attack rendered him stunned and needed to be solved quickly.
"This incident strikes at the very heart of Hanau and revives the wounds of the right-wing terrorist attack five years ago," he wrote on social media, referring to the killing of nine people by a shooter targeting individuals of immigrant origin in February 2020.
